By India Today Web Desk: Former Pakistan pacer Sohail Khan made a shocking revelation about his spat with star Indian batter Virat Kohli during the India vs Pakistan group match of the ICC World Cup 2015 in Melbourne. Khan claims that MS Dhoni and Misbah ul Haq intervened after his remark made Virat Kohli shut up for good.

“Virat came and told me ‘Aap cricket mein abhi aaye hain. And itni baatein karte ho (You’ve just arrived and you speak so much). I was a Test cricketer back then. I played Test matches in 2006-07. Then, in between, I endured a troubled knee that forced me out of action. I said ‘Beta jab tu Under-19 khel raha tha na, tera baap Test cricketer tha’ (Son, when you were playing Under-19 for India, your father was a Test player). That’s how I said it. Then if you see carefully, Misbah intervened and he got angry at me. He asked me to keep quiet,” Sohail said on the Nadir Ali Podcast.

Virat Kohli’s 107 propelled India to 300/7 even though Sohail Khan picked a sensational 5-wicket haul, including that of the then-Indian vice-captain. In reply, Pakistan were troubled by the bounce and pace of Mohammed Shami, who took 4 wickets including that of veterans Younis Khan, Misbah and Shahid Afridi to break the back of their batting as India went to win the group match and continue their unbeaten run against the arch-rivals in the 50-over World Cup.

However, Sohail added that, based on where Kohli is now, their altercation during the World Cup nearly eight years ago is behind him, and the former India captain has earned his respect. “I respect him today because he is a great batter, amazing,” he added.

Sohail has played 9 Tests, 13 ODIs, and five T20Is for Pakistan, taking 51 international wickets. Although he hasn’t officially retired, the 38-year-old last played a match for Pakistan in September 2017.
