By India Today Web Desk: World No.5 Aryna Sabalenka said that she aims to get better and doesn’t want success to get to her head. Back in November, the Belarusian star defeated World No.1 Iga Swiatek 6-2, 2-6, 6-1 in the semi-finals of the WTA finals.
In 2022, the 24-year-old Sabalenka faced Swiatek five times and it was only in the fifth attempt that she managed to get the better of the Polish star. Overall, Sabalenka beat Swiatek two out of six times.
Sabalenka said that she didn’t want to clutter her mind with what was going to happen. Rather, she talked about putting in the hard yards to fetch results.
“Every season is different. The previous season cannot guarantee you the good next season. It’s really good for me that I finished well, so at least I don’t have this kind of thinking like, what’s going to happen next season? What’s going on with my serve? At least I can just practice more calmly, knowing I just have to work hard and things will work for me,” Sabalenka was quoted as saying to WTA.
Sabalenka said that she is a much more comfortable zone and talked about focusing on improving her serve.
“I definitely feel much more comfortable than it was in the beginning of last season, but there are still a lot of things to improve and I’m really working hard to make sure my serve is going to be the best next season,” she added.
Sabalenka is set to start her campaign in 2023 on Wednesday, January 3 in the Adelaide International. She will face Russia’s Liudmila Dmitriyevna Samsonova in the Round of 16 match. Sabalenka is also expected to take part in the Australian Open.
