World No.2 Jannik Sinner confirmed on Monday that he is in a relationship with Russia’s Anna Kalinskaya. The couple was earlier reported to be dating when they spent time with each other during on-court practice sessions before the ongoing edition of the French Open. On Monday, Kalinskaya was seen cheering for Sinner when the Italian locked horns with USA’s Christopher Eubanks.
After Sinner opened up on their relationship, he rooted for her girlfriend during her match later in the day against Clara Burel. However, Sinner refrained from giving away too many details about their relationship.
“I’m with Anna [Kalinskaya], yes, but we keep everything very confidential, you know my confidentiality… I won’t say more,” Sinner said via Italian news agency ANSA.
Sinner, Kalinskaya start off handsomely
Sinner had an excellent day in the office after he beat Eubanks 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 and made his way through to the second round of the clay-court major. Sinner is also in contention to become the new World No.1, toppling Novak Djokovic, who has spent more than 400 weeks at the top.
However, Sinner said that instead of cluttering his mind with the aim of reaching No.1, he wants to enjoy the competition.
“No. Now, honestly, I’m not thinking. I just try to get back where I want to be, as I said, trying to build confidence day by day. Every day for me, every shot I make or in practice session or in a match for me is important at this moment,” Sinner said while talking to the Roland Garros Press after his match.
Sinner’s opponent in the second round in Richard Gasquet, who got the better of Borna Coric.
Kalinskaya also started her campaign in an impressive manner after beating France’s Burel 7-6 (7-3), 7-5). She will next be up against former US Open champion Bianca Andreescu.
